Deutsche Welle ends her live German program streaming today
- Too bad:

- And in those last news: “The Chinese government demands reforms in the Euro-zone before providing financial help”.
- I remember a time when Deutsche Welle was available during family vacation only via short wave radio. Now, the on-demand offerings of the Deutsche Welle will be expanded. They are more useful for language learning than live streaming anyway.

This was a very unpleasant surprise, when I logged onto the DW stream via iTunes. I had only just discovered the stream a few weeks before, and for the first time in twenty years I had a source of German broadcasting available to me in a very convenient form; I could brush up on the (spoken) language, and simultaneously hear what was going on in the news in Germany. (I do also regularly read the SZ and Handelsblatt online) Streaming Deutsche Welle was a great find for an old German ex-patriate in the USA.
Then it was cut off. Why? I wonder if DW is still being broadcast on shortwave??
The on-demand online material is much less convenient. When I come home, I just want to turn on some German radio and not deal with navigating through a bunch of choices first. I really like the radio format, where you might be surprised with the content you get.
Ah, well. Now it’s off to discover if any other German “senders” are streaming live online.
Thanks for your comment. I added this post: http://plagwitz.wordpress.com/2012/01/12/deutschland-radio/, and also check this: http://plagwitz.wordpress.com/2011/10/06/german-public-tv-on-the-internet/. When I come home and have to do household chores, I listen to Tagesschau over wireless headphones – for lots of News TV benefits from subtracting the pictures
